Malaysia controlled the ball a lot in the first half but did not have any breakthrough attacks. The home team's opening goal came from a free kick, partly helped by goalkeeper Hoai Anh's lack of concentration.
Vietnam did not control the ball much but their attacks were more impressive than their opponents. Both of Vietnam's goals were clearly marked, one from a good combination between Cong Phuong and Huy Toan, the other from a successful long ball.
