"Following a request from the US government to assist in resolving the issue of detainees at Guantanamo Bay, taking into account the humanitarian situation, 10 prisoners have been received by the Sultanate of Oman with temporary residence permits," the Oman Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In a statement, the ministry said Oman had accepted the prisoners at the request of President Barack Obama to reduce the number of prisoners at the center in the final week of his administration. However, the statement did not specify the names or nationalities of the prisoners.
