"On na" in Na Khom
(Baonghean) - "On na" is the Thai people's way of calling the form of farming by driving buffaloes and cows back and forth in the fields to loosen the soil. This is a typical form of farming from ancient times of the Thai people in some districts of Western Nghe An such as Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, Que Phong...
About 30 km from Hoa Binh Town, there is a small Thai village in Yen Na Commune that still maintains this "ancient" form of farming, that is Na Khom village. The village has only 107 households with 439 people, mainly living on slash-and-burn farming.
Although life has developed, the people of Na Khom village still maintain the practice of "on na" or using wooden rakes to level the fields... "The whole village has 3.5 hectares of rice fields and maintains this method because of the mountainous conditions, most of which are terraced fields, so it is very difficult to use machinery" - Head of Na Khom village, Mr. Lu Cong Thang said.
Some pictures we captured in preparation for the summer-autumn crop in Na Khom village.
