Emphasizing the message of unity, Mr. Biden affirmed that Democrats and Republicans can decide to cooperate with each other.

"If we can decide not to cooperate with each other, then we can decide to cooperate with each other. I believe that this is part of what the American people have entrusted us with, and they call on us to cooperate."

Neither Mr. Biden nor Ms. Harris mentioned Donald Trump in their speeches. Instead, they focused on the challenges ahead, including dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. Joe Biden also mentioned the diverse coalition of Americans who came together to elect him President:

"I'm proud of our broadest and most diverse coalition in history. Democrats, Republicans, independents, progressives, moderates, conservatives, old people, young people, urban, suburban, rural, gay, transgender, white, Latino, Asian, Native American. It means a lot to me."

Mr Biden also insisted he would not have made it to this position without the votes of African Americans, whom he called “a community that has stood by me once again”. In swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Georgia, African American voters were crucial to the Democratic victory.

Closing his speech, Mr. Joe Biden cited the famous hymn "On Eagles' Wings", saying that this was his late son's favorite song.

Mr. Biden shares the songThis song has inspired him in the final days of the campaign. Mr. Biden said he hopes it will bring comfort to the many Americans grieving the loss of loved ones in the Covid-19 pandemic.

"On the Wings of a Phoenix" contains the faith that I hold dear and what I believe will accompany America, and the hope that I hope to offer some measure of comfort and understanding to the 230,000 Americans who have lost loved ones to this terrible virus this year."

"Now, together, on the wings of a phoenix, we will begin the work to which God and history have called us. With full hearts and steady hands, with faith in America and faith in each other, in our beloved country and a yearning for justice, let us be the nation we know we can be," Biden said.
