To celebrate the 89th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, on the evening of June 21, at the Hanoi Friendship Labor Cultural Palace, the National Press Awards Council solemnly held the 8th National Press Awards Ceremony 2013.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Thuan Huu - Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Chairman of the National Press Awards Council, said: The National Press Awards is one of the nationwide activities, both to honor the best authors and press works of the year, and to encourage and motivate journalists to continue to strive, improve the quality of information, serving the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

The 8th National Press Awards 2013 had the highest number of entries ever, with 1,665 entries by authors and groups of authors, selected from tens of thousands of printed, spoken, visual and electronic press works published by 58 provincial and municipal Journalists Associations, 93 Journalists Associations and many central press agencies sent to the Awards Council. This was also the year with the highest number of Associations nationwide participating ever.

This year’s award-winning works have a variety of themes. Among them, the theme of sea and islands is still one of the most popular and has won many important awards out of a total of 117 awards given at this year’s press awards.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr. Dinh The Huynh, Politburo member, Party Central Committee Secretary, Head of the Central Propaganda Department, commended and congratulated the important achievements and results of the team of journalists nationwide; warmly congratulated the journalists honored to receive the National Press Award.

Mr. Dinh The Huynh highly appreciated the role of the press in the past national liberation cause as well as in the current cause of building and defending the Fatherland. The most noble award: the Gold Star Order that the Party and State awarded to the Vietnamese revolutionary press force on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day is a recognition of those great contributions," said Mr. Dinh The Huynh.

Mr. Dinh The Huynh affirmed that, in the context of the current world and domestic situation, the tasks set for the press are extremely heavy. Mr. Dinh The Huynh hopes that the team of journalists will continue to propagate and encourage the implementation of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, the implementation of the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress, the 2013 Constitution, the Resolution of the 4th Central Conference on Party building, and Directive 03 of the Politburo on promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's moral example.

At the same time, the press must continue to step up the fight against bureaucracy, corruption, waste, negatives and social evils with a constructive spirit and high responsibility; contributing to preventing the degradation of political ideology, ethics and lifestyle in the Party and in society. The press must be a core force in the fight against the plot of "peaceful evolution" and fight against false information and arguments of hostile forces.
