Pompeo accuses Chinese diplomats of promoting political activities in the US
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Chinese diplomatic missions of stepping up political activities in the US and trying to influence domestic political life in the country.
“The reality is that most state legislatures have probably received a letter from the CPC (Chinese Communist Party) … as part of a coordinated propaganda campaign. For example, the Chinese Consulate in New York is very politically active,” he said Wednesday in a speech in the Wisconsin state Senate. Pompeo’s remarks were posted on the US State Department’s website.

New York police officer arrested on charges of collaborating with China
In addition, he said, the Chinese government is conducting espionage campaigns even at the provincial and municipal level. As an example, he cited the recent arrest of a New York police officer accused of spying for China.
"Across the United States, China's sister city programs... are all run by an organization called the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. This group is part of the United Front Work Department, the Chinese Communist Party's official overseas propaganda arm," Pompeo added.
He urged local lawmakers to be cautious when Chinese diplomats approach them, because it “is unlikely to be based on a spirit of genuine cooperation or friendship.”
Earlier, the US Department of Justice said a New York police officer was charged with suspected espionage for the government.Chinaand providing Beijing with information about ethnic Tibetans. It is reported that he could face up to 55 years in prison. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin called the allegations fabricated.
