US President-elect Donald Trump plans to reduce the size of US intelligence agencies, including the CIA and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources close to the country's future head of state.

"In Trump's view, the US intelligence community has become completely politicized. They all need to lose weight. The goal is to restructure them so they can interact with each other," the Wall Street Journal quoted its own source as saying.

In particular, the source said that Trump is planning to reduce the number of CIA Central Office staff, while increasing the number of "on the ground" control staff around the world.

News of the reform plan comes amid Trump's strong criticism of the current administration, Democrats in Congress, and a series of former special operations agency employees, which has led the President-elect to cast doubt on the conclusions of US intelligence agencies, accusing the Russian government of hacking US computer systems to influence the presidential election.
