Russia's TASS news agency on December 11 quoted a source from The New York Times, stating that the US is likely to reduce military aid to the Kiev government after Republican Donald Trump takes office.

Kiev is dependent on foreign aid to keep its economy afloat, but Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress are unlikely to allocate military and financial aid at the same level as the outgoing administration of US President Joe Biden, sources say.

In the US presidential election on November 5, Republican candidate Trump defeated his Democratic opponent, US Vice President Kamala Harris. He will officially take office as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025.

During his campaign, Mr. Trump repeatedly pledged to end the conflict in Ukraine. In an interview with NBC on December 8, the US President-elect said that Ukraine should “probably” prepare to receive less aid from the US.

Mr. Vladimir Zelensky has repeatedly admitted that the US could end or sharply reduce support for the Kiev government after Mr. Trump takes office.
