Taking advantage of the homeowner’s trust, the maid drugged the gold shop owner and his wife during a meal, stole more than 50 taels of gold, and then ran away with her lover. Afterwards, she bought an expensive car and enjoyed a comfortable life.

On December 25, the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City held a first-instance trial and sentenced defendant Huynh Ngoc Duyen (48 years old, residing in Ho Chi Minh City) to 20 years in prison for the crimes of "Robbery" and "Theft of property".

According to the indictment, due to their acquaintance, on April 15, 2012, Nguyen Trong Nghia hired Huynh Ngoc Duyen to help with housework at the gold shop on Pham Van Chieu Street (Ward 14, Go Vap District).

While working there, seeing that Mr. Nghia had many assets, Duyen had the intention to take them. On the morning of April 22, 2012, Duyen went to 4 drug stores, bought 4 sleeping pills, brought them home, crushed them, and tried swallowing 2 of them.

Seeing no problem, the next afternoon, Duyen crushed the remaining two pills and poured them into the bottom of Mr. Nghia and his wife's rice bowl. When she saw the homeowner and his wife sleeping soundly, Duyen went to the gold cabinet and took away some of their belongings including bracelets, necklaces, necklaces, rings, phones, and 25 million VND in cash, then ran away.

Waking up and discovering his property missing, Mr. Nghia reported to the police. The total amount of property and cash that Duyen had taken from Mr. Nghia was nearly 550 million VND.

After taking possession of the above assets, Duyen went to a hotel in District 7 to rent a room and then went to Tay Ninh to sell some jewelry. Duyen gave her lover, Le Quang An, 10 million VND and together they bought a motorbike worth 39 million VND as a means of transportation. The couple enjoyed a happy life.

On June 27, 2012, Go Vap District police discovered Duyen and An living together at a hotel in the area, so they issued an emergency arrest warrant for Duyen and recovered some of her property.

In addition to the above robbery, Duyen also confessed to having successfully committed two thefts while working as a housekeeper for homeowners in Tan Binh and Thu Duc districts, with a total value of nearly 25 million VND.
