Slovakia and Sweden were the two countries that exported the most cars to Vietnam during the week from April 6 to April 12.

Statistics from the General Department of Customs show that the number of imported cars into Vietnam last week decreased sharply compared to the previous week. The total number of imported cars into Vietnam reached 283 units, worth nearly 10.9 million USD.

The number of imported cars during the week reached 95, worth nearly 3.6 million USD. On average, each car costs more than 37,000 USD. Of these, 35 cars came from Slovakia, 27 from Sweden, 22 from Mexico, 5 from the US, and 4 from Japan. Canada and South Korea each exported one car to Vietnam. Thus, Europe alone accounted for 62 out of the total 95 cars.

Slovakia is one of the largest car-producing countries in Europe, producing Volkswagens, PSA Peugeot Citroens and Kia Motors. Some of the models sold in Vietnam that are produced in Slovakia include the Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne.

Compared to last week, the number of cars has decreased significantly and there are no models imported from ASEAN. According to statistics from the General Department of Customs in the first week of April, more than 500 cars from Thailand were imported into Vietnam.

In the second week of April, the number of trucks imported into Vietnam reached 181 units, worth 5.56 million USD. All of these trucks cleared customs in Hai Phong and originated from Thailand.

Also last week, the amount of auto parts and components imported into Vietnam reached 62.7 million USD. Customs statistics show that this group of goods mainly originated from Japan with 14.1 million USD, China with 12.3 million USD, South Korea with 12 million USD, Thailand with 10.3 million USD, Indonesia with 4.8 million USD. These 5 markets accounted for 85.4% of the total import value of auto parts and components nationwide.

Thus, by the end of the first half of April, the number of imported cars into Vietnam reached less than 1,000 units, while in the same period last year it reached 1,282 units. The market has not shown any signs of easing its thirst for imported cars, especially tax-free cars imported from ASEAN.
