Car crashed into pond, 4 people died

After veering off the road and knocking down several trees, the four-seater car carrying five people flipped over and sank into the pond. The driver managed to escape, but the others were trapped and suffocated in the car. One of the four victims was planning to get married next week.

3 this morning, while traveling on Highway 47 through Tho The commune (Trieu Son, Thanh Hoa), a black 4-seat Lifan car traveling from Thanh Hoa city to Sao Vang airport reportedly lost control, veered to the left side of the road, crashed into several trees, then flipped over and plunged into a pond of a resident's house.

Driver Nguyen Van Thin (27 years old) managed to escape and run for help, but 4 people were trapped in the submerged car. About 20 minutes later, villagers came and flipped the car over to bring the victims to shore. However, 4 people (2 men, 2 women) died.

The identities of the four victims include: Nguyen Van Cuong (23 years old, Tho Tan commune); Do Thi Thuy (23 years old, Tho Dan commune); Le Thi Huong (24 years old, Tho Ngoc commune) and Le Sy Trung (27 years old, Tho Dan commune), all from Trieu Son district. Mr. Thin had just bought a car to transport passengers a few months before the accident. Mr. Cuong was getting married next week.

Mr. Duong Van Thanh (63 years old, owner of the fish pond) said that he was sleeping alone in his house when he heard a loud rumbling noise outside the pond. "I ran out and saw a person drenched with panic, pointing to the middle of the pond and shouting "help! help". I shined my flashlight and saw the car, which was still lit, sinking. Nearly 10 people were mobilized to run to break the door and turn the car over, but could not save anyone," Mr. Thanh added.

At the scene, the car was sticking out of the pond, about 200 square meters wide, the roof of the car was crushed. Hundreds of people gathered to watch the police examine the scene, perform an autopsy and recover the damaged car. Traffic through this area was blocked.

At nearly 11am this morning, the accident vehicle was brought ashore by authorities.
