Pakistan: Investigating employees who helped create fake documents for terrorists

(Baonghean.vn)- On August 19, Pakistani authorities are investigating officials suspected of issuing fake identity documents to jihadists of criminal groups, including the notorious terrorist group Al-Qaeda.

The Palestinian Intelligence Service (ISI) said it had uncovered a fraud at the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Initial investigations revealed that many NADRA officials had been receiving payments ranging from $100 to $200 to falsify documents for criminals or terrorists.

AFP news agency reported that 40 NADRA employees are currently under police investigation, including two senior military officers who are also suspected of being involved in the ring.

It is known that the situation of counterfeiting identity cards is quite common in Pakistan. Evidence is in a report released in 2014 by the Pakistan Investigation Agency, this agency estimated that in recent years, more than 50,000 fake Pakistani identity cards were issued to illegal immigrants - most of whom come from neighboring Afghanistan.
