The Korean coach changed his mind and proactively asked to take over the Vietnam U22 team and the Vietnam national team, on the condition that he would have two more assistants from his countrymen.

"On the morning of March 5, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien worked with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and coach Park Hang-seo to evaluate upcoming tournaments. After being informed that both the 30th SEA Games and the 2022 World Cup qualifiers are very important to Vietnam, coach Park Hang-seo proactively stood up and asked to take responsibility for leading both the U22 team and the national team to compete in these two tournaments," a VFF leader shared withVnExpress.

Coach Park Hang-seo will be the head coach of both U23 Vietnam and the Vietnam national team.

Coach Park Hang-seo's decision was surprising. Previously, he said that the 30th SEA Games and the 2022 World Cup qualifiers were taking place close together, so if he took charge of both, he would be overloaded and not be well prepared. The Korean coach proposed the option of assigning the U22 team to his assistant Lee Young-jin to lead the SEA Games, and the VFF approved it.

"Coach Park Hang-seo agreed to lead two teams. However, he asked for more support in terms of personnel. He wants Mr. Lee Tae-hoon - currently the Technical Director of HAGL - and another Korean colleague as assistants in the near future. In addition, Coach Park also requested more fitness experts and doctors. VFF supports all of these requests," the VFF leader added.

With the new decision of Coach Park Hang-seo, VFF will cancel the plan to let Mr. Lee Young-jin take charge of the Vietnam U22 team. The former Korean player who participated in the World Cup twice agreed to continue to serve as the number one assistant to Mr. Park Hang-seo.

Today, March 6, Coach Park Hang-seo and the U23 Vietnam team will gather in Hanoi. The team will start training to prepare for the 2020 U23 Asian qualifiers. In Group K at My Dinh Stadium, U23 Vietnam will meet Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand. Coach Park Hang-seo's goal is to win the top spot in the group to get a direct ticket to the final round.
