"After the meeting, we planned to sign a joint statement, but it was not possible to do so because the Americans wanted to include in it a requirement that we not interfere in the elections, which, in their opinion, we reject," Patrushev said.
According to him, in response, Russia proposed to include in the document a clause stating that the US should not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.“At that time, they said they would not sign such a statement,” Mr. Patrushev said.
At the same time, he stressed that during the meeting there was no criticism of Russia, the exchange was constructive.
