Pham Thi Huong: 'I am confident that I have good character'

Despite being surrounded by many rumors before the final night of Miss Universe Vietnam 2015, the new Miss Pham Huong shared that she is strong and courageous enough to overcome the rumors.

Immediately after the final night in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa, the new Miss Pham Thi Huong (commonly known as Pham Huong) and the organizing committee and judges held a short press conference.

At this event, Miss Pham Thi Huong shared that she was very surprised with the victory she achieved at this year's national beauty contest.

"The love and attention everyone showed me during the final night surprised me. Standing on stage, I felt everyone's love for me through the applause and cheers of the audience. When I heard my name in the top 5, I felt so happy, because it was something I didn't dare to think about before. When I was again named Miss, I was so moved. This victory is the result of all my hard work and tireless efforts over a long period of time," she said emotionally.

When asked about the many rumors that are "surrounding", Pham Huong affirmed that she is very confident in her personality. "During the contest, I went through many tests from the organizing committee, from my personal background to everything around me. I know I am strong enough to overcome all the rumors and will do my best to protect the noble title I have achieved", the new beauty queen shared.

Among the 44 contestants in the final round of Miss Universe Vietnam this year, Pham Huong is the beauty who has been caught up in many rumors such as: suspected of having plastic surgery, buying the award, having "star disease" and not getting along with the contestants... Right before the final night of Miss Universe 2015, the organizing committee and several reporters received an anonymous letter accusing this Hai Phong beauty of having undergone plastic surgery on her chin. The letter of accusation also included a comparison of Pham Huong's past and present portraits. One day before the final night, designer Vo Viet Chung also appeared in the press "accusing" Pham Huong of not being worthy of competing in the beauty pageant because she is a liar.

Accordingly, this designer said that his company and Pham Huong had a one-year working contract after she won the title of 1st runner-up at Miss Sport 2014 held in Russia. Pham Huong once denied her relationship with Vo Viet Chung through this contract, but in a meeting with the press on the afternoon of October 2, she said that she and Vo Viet Chung ended their working contract since April this year. From these events, Vo Viet Chung commented that Pham Huong had a fake lifestyle and denied his support. He thought that the beauty did not deserve to win the title.

Regarding questions surrounding the relationship between Vo Viet Chung and Pham Huong, as well as the scandals of the new beauty queen, the representative of the organizing committee said that the judging process of Miss Universe Vietnam is very strict, objective and fair. From the semi-finals to the finals, the organizing committee coordinates with the functional agencies of the cultural sector and the police to check the background and personal information of the contestants, ensuring that the beauties do not have any violations of the law.

"As for civil relations information of the contestants, we are not allowed to answer. If the contestants have civil disputes, they can have private discussions, outside the framework of the contest... Up to now, we consider Pham Thi Huong a worthy contestant in the final night. The results she achieved are from a very strict process, with the supervision of an international auditing company," said a representative of the jury.

The judges and organizers all affirmed that the new beauty queen is a person of good moral character.

There is information that Pham Huong may receive many favors during the ethics and personal examination process because the head of the ethics examination subcommittee is Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh - a colleague and acquaintance of Pham Huong. In response to this information, Mr. Tran Ngoc Nhat - head of the contest's organizing committee - affirmed that this subcommittee has five members who operate objectively and independently. The beauty queen said she did not feel she received any favors from the organizers and judges. "I am lucky to work in an environment rich in cultural traditions like the Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture, Arts and Tourism. I am loved and supported by many teachers and friends in the contest. During the contest, I had to go through many challenges like the other contestants. I tried my best to achieve this success. It shows that everyone has correctly evaluated my efforts," Pham Huong said.

Pham Huong's prize for the title of Miss is a crown worth 2.2 billion VND, 200 million VND in cash, a year of luxury apartment use and a luxury car. In addition, she continues to undergo training from the Miss Universe Vietnam organizing committee to prepare to represent the country in Miss Universe 2015.
