Strive to produce and process agricultural, forestry and fishery products to reach 24 trillion VND

(Baonghean.vn) -On the afternoon of January 16, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Thanh Dien had a working session with relevant departments and agencies to listen to and give opinions on the Project on developing the agricultural, forestry and fishery processing industry associated with export in Nghe An province until 2020.

Nghe An has great potential in developing the agricultural, forestry and fishery processing industry, with main products such as peanuts, tea, rubber, oranges, cattle, pigs, poultry, wood, bamboo, seafood... In 2013, the province had 30,891 processing and manufacturing establishments, attracting about 53,958 workers. In general, in recent years, the processing industry has maintained a stable growth rate and determined the industrial development speed in the area. Within the processing industry, the value of the processing sector increased from 5.55% (in 2010) to 59.38% in 2013. The planning of raw material areas serving the development of the agricultural, forestry and fishery processing industry in the area has been planned and approved. Concentrated, large-scale raw material areas create an abundant supply of raw materials for the processing industry; infrastructure serving production has been invested and developed; Many scientific and technological advances are applied to production to increase productivity and quality of agricultural, forestry and fishery products.

The goal by 2015 is to create more sources of high-quality products, improve domestic and international competitiveness; promote the development of Nghe An agriculture, concentrated industrial crop growing areas continue to be maintained and developed in the direction of goods, meeting the raw materials for processing factories; the production value of the agricultural, forestry and fishery processing industry for export (at fixed prices 2010) reaches 24 trillion VND, the growth rate in the period 2016-2020 averages 12.2-12.5%/year. The export turnover of processed agricultural products in the area reaches 500 million USD, accounting for 66.7% of the export turnover of goods, increasing on average 17.02%/year.

After listening to the opinions of relevant departments, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee concluded: Nghe An Department of Industry and Trade - the unit in charge of developing the project needs to receive comments from relevant departments to complete the project and submit it to the Provincial People's Committee soon. In particular, pay attention to re-evaluating the current status of the processing industry and raw material areas with updated data of 2014 to have appropriate solutions. Review key areas to prioritize investment, and at the same time plan suitable raw material areas to balance raw material sources for processing. The viewpoint is to link the processing industry with enterprises, product output markets, and apply science and technology to production to exploit full potential advantages. In particular, pay attention to environmental issues when building factories and facilities processing agricultural, forestry and aquatic products in the area.
