Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai congratulated new Ambassador Ahmed Akif Oktay and hoped that in his new position, the Ambassador will make positive contributions to consolidating and enhancing the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated Türkiye's position in the region, affirming that Vietnam wishes to build a long-term and effective cooperative relationship with Türkiye.
Expressing his delight at the positive development in the bilateral relationship in recent times, especially in the economic and trade fields with two-way turnover in 2011 reaching 852 million USD, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the two countries still have much potential to improve the effectiveness of cooperation, first of all by increasing exchanges, exploring investment, and creating conditions for businesses on both sides to strive to bring bilateral trade turnover to 1 billion USD in 2012.
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai suggested that the two sides should increase delegation exchanges at all levels, while closely coordinating and supporting each other at regional and international forums. Türkiye supports Vietnam's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term, the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2014-2016 term, and the United Nations Economic and Social Council for the 2016-2018 term.
Turkish Ambassador Ahmed Akif Oktay thanked Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai for taking the time to welcome him, expressed his joy at taking on the responsibility in Vietnam and hoped to make positive contributions to help the two countries make new strides in relations in all fields, especially trade.
The Ambassador said that in the near future, there will be strong bridging activities to promote exchanges and trade so that Turkish partners can learn and increase their activities in Vietnam, specifically opening fairs, increasing direct flights between Vietnam and Turkey, etc. The Ambassador hopes that the Vietnamese Government will support and create favorable conditions for partners of both sides to have more advantages in cooperation as well as within the framework of cooperation between Turkey and ASEAN and Asia.
