Which car segment is expected to attract the most customers in 2023?

With nearly 76,000 cars sold in 2022, B-class sedans with models in the segment including: Toyota Vios, Honda City, Hyundai Accent, Kia Soluto, Mitsubishi Attrage, Mazda 2, Suzuki Ciaz and Nissan Almera are the best-selling car segment in Vietnam in 2022.

In 2023, B-class sedans are expected to continue to maintain their appeal despite the increasingly competitive auto market with the emergence of many new models. Models such as Toyota Vios, Hyundai Accent or Nissan Almera... promise to move to a new generation in 2023. The race to the top of the segment will continue to be dramatic as the supply of models in the B-class sedan segment is increasingly abundant.

In contrast to the B-class sedan segment, which does not have many new recruits, in recent years the small urban SUV segment, priced from 550 - 900 million VND, has flourished and become popular with a series of new models launched on the market. This is also one of the most popular car segments in Vietnam in 2022 with sales reaching nearly 70,000 vehicles, second only to the B-class sedan segment.

With a price range equivalent to B-class and C-class sedans... while having a multi-purpose high-chassis design and flexible operation, small urban SUVs are chosen by many Vietnamese customers and have become a typical car model for the trend of switching from popular sedans to multi-purpose SUVs of Vietnamese people.

In addition to models that have been affirming their position such as Toyota Corolla Cross, Kia Seltos... the small urban SUV segment, priced from 550 - 900 million VND in 2023, will have many new models launched. In the future, urban SUVs are expected to surpass B-class sedans to become the most popular car segment in Vietnam.

In addition, the popular 5+2-seat MPV segment, priced under 700 million VND, with sales of nearly 53,000 vehicles, is also a segment with remarkable growth. With fashionable design, versatility and capacity for many people... The popular 5+2-seat MPV is becoming the top choice of many customer groups buying family cars and doing business services.

With the arrival of a series of new Korean cars including Kia Carens and Hyundai Stargazer in late 2022, as well as the Honda BR-V and the new generation Toyota Innova likely to be launched soon, popular MPVs will gain traction and continue to grow sales in 2023.

At the end of 2022, the Vietnamese electric car market recorded many positive changes when in December alone, more than 4,000 electric cars were delivered to customers. Besides VinFast e34, VF8, Porsche Taycan or Mercedes-Benz EQ, this year's electric car market will become more exciting with a series of new options from many segments.

The hybrid car market has also gradually been focused on by automakers as more and more "hybrid" car models enter the market. Corolla Cross 1.8HEV, Camry 2.5HV or Corolla Altis 1.8HEV have been introduced to Vietnamese consumers along with traditional internal combustion engine car models.

The 2023 sales race has only just begun for a month and there are still many unknowns to come. Brand new, new generation models will be continuously launched from March 2023 to the end of the year, which may contribute significantly to the sales of the segments.
