Software helps to easily learn two subjects History and Geography
There was a teacher who spent nearly three years designing software on History and Geography to become a useful resource for teachers and students of the school.
The idea of creating the software "Discover Vietnam" by Mr. Trinh Nguyen Thanh Tam - a biology teacher at Hoang Dieu Secondary School (Vi Thanh City, Hau Giang) - comes from the fact that students are increasingly less interested in these two subjects, partly because textbooks, especially History, are heavy on documents, events, and are dry...
In addition, he found that his colleagues also had difficulty accessing information and searching for data to serve their teaching. Especially when accessing unofficial websites, searching for data was even more difficult.

3 years for software
Mr. Tam confided: “The idea of how to have a complete and interesting software about the two subjects of history and geography to “attract” students to read so that they will have basic and extensive knowledge about these two subjects, through which they will be educated in patriotism and national pride..., at the same time helping colleagues have an official access address to save time and effort... kept urging me.”
To design this unique, lively software, Mr. Tam spent a lot of time, passion and effort.
Mr. Tam searched for documents from many sources in the library, on the internet, textbooks "Natural Resources Conservation" and "Vietnam Encyclopedia"... then compared and selected the most standard and suitable information to write into complete data and put into the software program.
Before officially putting it into use, the teacher temporarily put it on the school's website to survey and get people's opinions on the pros and cons of this software to continue upgrading and perfecting the product...
It took Mr. Tam nearly three years to complete the software and in October 2014 he put the software “Discover Vietnam” on the school’s website. The software is divided into two main parts: “Vietnam - My Fatherland” and “Homeland’s Sea and Islands”.
Study while playing...
The section “Vietnam - My Fatherland” includes Vietnam Overview and Vietnam History. In which, Vietnam Overview has 9 folders: Language, religion, ethnicity, cuisine, regions, provinces, festivals, relics, customs.
And Brief History of Vietnam also has nine folders: Brief History of Vietnam, Vietnamese civilizations, country names through the ages, capitals in history, great battles, events of the month, historical figures, presidents through the ages, general secretaries through the ages... Each folder is like a miniature encyclopedia on a topic that the author has taken great care of.
For example, in the directory "Capitals in history", readers will know which dynasty the capital of each historical period is associated with, along with the achievements of that period with illustrative images...
The teacher confided: “The important thing in learning history is still the lessons of patriotism, national pride, creativity in work... Historical stories bring immense value because they are lessons of being human, forming personality. Therefore, in the "Historical figures" folder, I have compiled 600 historical figures to set good examples for students to follow...”.
In the section “Homeland Sea and Islands”, Mr. Tam also designed nine folders: knowledge about sea and islands, Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty, Vietnamese navy soldiers, did you know, multiple choice questions, music, documentaries about the history of formation and development of Vietnam's sea sovereignty, games, administrative maps - Vietnam's sea and islands.
Very elaborately, in each province, archipelago, island, the teacher recorded basic information about soil, biology, ecosystem, area, economic significance, national security and defense... Particularly in the section "Vietnam's sovereignty over seas and islands", the teacher collected from many sources of information, legal bases affirming Vietnam's sovereignty over seas and islands.
So, with all his ability and enthusiasm, this young teacher tried every way to "attract" students to his software program.
For example, in terms of games, to create a comfortable atmosphere for learning and playing, the teacher designed integrated quiz programs such as mysterious pictures, secret crosswords, guessing meaning, matching information - events, chasing pictures - catching words... and useful online games to attract game addicts such as protecting the sea and islands, contributing stones to build Truong Sa...
Teacher Tam confided: "With the idea of creating games that the more children play, the more knowledge they accumulate about history, geography... so I took the trouble to compile about 2,000 fun quizzes about Vietnamese history and geography to serve the games."
At the same time, he also regularly updates news and media to come up with interesting, useful and topical games such as the game "contribute stones to build Truong Sa", he got the idea from the campaign "Texting to contribute stones to build Truong Sa".
The game has many sets of questions with each set consisting of three questions related to the island. Answering 2/3 questions correctly will get you a stone. If the number of stones is 20 or more, you win...
