International community reacts to news of Iranian President's death in plane crash

(Baonghean.vn) - Iranian officials and state media confirmed on May 20 that President Ebrahim Raisi, considered a potential successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in a helicopter crash in a mountainous area near the Azerbaijan border.

International public opinion has reacted to this information.

Specifically, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani said in a statement: "It is with deep sadness that we have received the tragic news that the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ibrahim Raisi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and their companions have passed away due to the unfortunate plane crash that occurred in Northern Iran. We send our sincere condolences and sympathies to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Ali Khamenei, as well as to the Iranian nation, its government and its people. We express our solidarity with the brotherly Iranian people and the officials of the Islamic Republic in this painful tragedy."

Meanwhile, Hamas also issued a statement, sending Hamas' "deepest condolences and solidarity" to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the Iranian government and the Iranian people over "this great loss".

Hamas also praised the deceased Iranian leaders for supporting the Palestinian cause and resistance against Israel, expressing confidence that Iran's "deeply rooted institutions" would help the country overcome "the consequences of this great loss".

Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi, Chairman of the Supreme Revolutionary Committee of the Houthis in Yemen, wrote on social network X: "We send our deepest condolences to the Iranian people, the Iranian leadership and the family of President Raisi and his entourage for the pain as reported. We pray to God to give their families patience and comfort. Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we will return. The Iranian people will continue to respect and obey the loyal leaders of the people."

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamin Bin Hamad Al-Thani expressed his condolences on social media X: "My sincere condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the passing of President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian, and the officials accompanying him in the tragic helicopter crash...".

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also shared a status with the content: "I, along with the government and people of Pakistan, send my deepest condolences and sympathies to the Iranian nation for this terrible loss. May the souls rest in peace in heaven. The great nation of Iran will overcome this tragedy with its inherent courage."

"Pakistan observes a day of mourning and flies its flag at half-mast to show respect for President Raisi and his companions and solidarity with our brotherly Iran," the leader added.

Also on X, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote: "Deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic death of Dr. Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. His contribution in strengthening the India-Iran bilateral relationship will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Iran. India stands with Iran at this time of grief."
