The protest broke out in the context of France's unemployment rate exceeding 10%, meaning that for the first time in 13 years, more than 3 million people in France are unemployed.
The protest in Paris yesterday was just one of a series of marches across the country organized by the French General Confederation of Labour (CGT), the country's largest trade union, to protest against the government's plans to cut spending and jobs.
Earlier the same day, French riot police had to use tear gas to disperse about 1,000 protesters outside an auto show in Paris./.
