The ban was issued after the Paris City government failed to convince trade unions to postpone a protest against the labor reform bill scheduled for today (June 23).
The government said that for many weeks it had to mobilize maximum police force to deal with the terrorist threat at a very high level and to ensure safety for EURO 2016. This made the task of the security forces more difficult, because many harassers and vandals mixed in with the recent protests.
However, union leaders immediately protested the ban, calling it unprecedented and demanding an urgent meeting with the French Interior Minister.
