The French National Assembly has just extended the state of emergency for another 6 months following the attack in Nice. |
The document presented by Prime Minister Manuel Valls' government proposed extending the state of emergency for three months, but deputies agreed to extend this period to six months.
The state of emergency, imposed after the November 13 terrorist attacks in Paris, is set to expire on July 26. French President Francois Hollande initially said on the afternoon of July 14 that the state of emergency would not be extended.
However, that same evening a major terrorist attack occurred in Nice, killing 84 people. As a result, the French authorities decided to extend the restrictions.
The state of emergency provides that security forces have the right to arrest anyone acting in a dangerous manner.
