Passenger fined 10 million VND for opening plane door for... coolness

The representative of the Northern Airport Authority said that he had just signed a decision to punish the act of opening the emergency exit of the plane against regulations for passenger Tran Van Binh, a native of Thai Binh.

Airplane emergency exits can only be opened in case of emergency.

Mr. Binh took Vietnam Airlines flight number VN1615 from Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi) to Pleiku (Gia Lai) on April 14.

Just as the pilot was preparing to taxi onto the runway for takeoff, passenger Tran Van Binh, sitting in seat 1D, suddenly opened the plane's emergency exit. The reason Mr. Binh gave was that he had been sitting there for a long time and the air conditioning was not cool enough, it was too hot, so he wanted to open the plane's door a little to... cool down.

Although the flight attendants immediately discovered and closed the door, the captain decided to return the plane to the parking spot and reported the incident to the airline's Operational Control Center at the airport. Vietnam Airlines' technical departments had to re-pressurize to check the technical condition of the slide and emergency exit. For this reason, the flight departed 1.5 hours behind schedule.

Later, at the Northern Airport Authority, Mr. Tran Van Binh admitted his actions and explained that he did not fully understand the regulations on security and safety on airplanes.

Considering the passenger's situation and level, the Northern Airport Authority fined this behavior at the lowest level of 10 million VND compared to the penalty range of 10 - 20 million VND. Mr. Binh paid the fine and continued his journey to Buon Ma Thuot.
