Fined 207 million, suspended Tri Thuc Tre electronic newspaper

The Ministry of Information and Communications decided to suspend the online newspaper Tri Thuc Tre for 3 months and fined it 207 million VND for publishing the article "Western girls and the 3 'N' letters that are famous worldwide".

This morning, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan signed a decision to suspend the online newspaper Tri Thuc Tre for 3 months. On the same day, the Chief Inspector of the Ministry signed a decision to fine the newspaper 207 million VND.

Previously, yesterday afternoon, Deputy Minister Truong Minh Tuan convened an urgent meeting with the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Press Department, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information to review violations by the electronic newspaper Tri Thuc Tre related to the article "Western girls and the 3 famous "N" letters" published on August 12.

The decision to suspend the operation of Tri Thuc Tre - the newspaper of the Vietnam Association of Young Intellectuals in Science and Technology - for 3 months was made because the newspaper seriously violated the provisions of the law on the press.

The total administrative fines for this newspaper amounted to 207 million VND, due to the following violations: Not clearly stating the real name or pen name of the author of the article "Western girls and the 3 famous 'N's"; Posting a photo of an individual without their consent in the article; Posting information that causes national disunity.

Tri Thuc Tre Newspaper must correct and apologize according to the law.
