According to statistics from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), in 2013, the world had 382 million people with type 2 diabetes and it is expected to increase by 55% in the next 2 decades; on average, this disease kills nearly 5 million people worldwide each year. This is truly a threat to human health, considered a pandemic of the 21st century. Research by the Vietnam Endocrine and Diabetes Association and Nghe An Endocrine Hospital shows that by 2013, in our country, the rate of diabetes was 5.7%. In Nghe An, over 6.5% of the population had diabetes. It is worth noting that up to 70% of diabetic patients were not detected and treated early, and treated actively; leading to low treatment effectiveness and the risk of serious complications such as blindness, kidney failure, cardiovascular complications, mental trauma, osteoporosis, etc.
