Special issue of stamp set "Commemorating the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory"

According to Vietnam Post Corporation (Vnpost), on May 5, 2014, in Dien Bien Phu city, Dien Bien province, the Ministry of Information and Communications and Vnpost will hold a special issuance ceremony of the postage stamp set "Commemorating the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory (1954 - 2014)".

This event is part of the activities of the Ministry of Information and Communications and Vietnam Post Corporation to practically celebrate the anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory, ending 9 years of protracted resistance war, ending 80 years of French colonial rule.

The stamp set “Commemorating the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory (1954 - 2014)” was designed by artist To Minh Trang (under Vietnam Post Corporation), including 1 stamp with a face value of 3,000 VND. The stamps were printed at the Postal Stamp Printing One Member Co., Ltd. using offset printing method. The stamp set will be available on the public postal network from May 5, 2014 to December 31, 2015.

With the initial issue of 1,000,000 postage stamps, and issued simultaneously at Vietnam Post's transaction offices nationwide for use in postal services, the stamp set "Commemorating the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory (1954 - 2014)" brings to the people of the whole country, to customers and international friends the message of pride in victory, the aspiration for peace, independence and freedom of the Vietnamese people. The stamp set will also help stamp collectors and collectors have another stamp set with historical, cultural and educational significance.

The stamp set “60th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (1954 - 2014)” is designed in a modern graphic style, showing the image of the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument and the image of Ban flowers - a typical flower of the Northwestern mountains and forests of the Fatherland. The image of the Monument and Ban flowers blooming against the blue sky and the relief of the Dien Bien Phu campaign in the Dien Bien Phu Monument Complex area represents the great victory in the aspiration for a peaceful future of the entire nation.

The stamp set “60th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (1954 - 2014)” is the 7th stamp set on the theme of commemorating the historic Dien Bien Phu victory. The previous 6 stamp sets (with a total of 21 designs and 3 blocks), issued by Vietnam Post, include: the stamp set “Dien Bien Phu Victory” including 4 stamp designs, face value 210 dong and 0.6 kg of rice, designed by artist Bui Trang Chuoc, issued in 1954; “10th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory” including 4 designs and 1 block of stamps, face value 66 cents, designed by artist Tran Luong, issued in 1964; “20th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory”, 2 stamp designs, face value 24 cents, designed by artist Tran Huy Khanh, issued in 1974; “Commemorating the 30th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory”, 7 stamps and 1 stamp block, face value 30 VND, designed by artist Huy Toan, issued in 1984; “Commemorating the 40th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory”, 2 stamps, face value 3,400 VND, designed by artist Trinh Quoc Thu, issued in 1994; and “Commemorating the 50th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory” including 2 stamps and 1 stamp block, face value 13,800 VND, designed by artist Vu Kim Lien, issued in 2004./.
