11 pieces of "lost" elephant tusks discovered at Noi Bai airport
All of the ivory has been sealed and is under the responsibility of the Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch for preservation.
On May 9, the Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch (Hanoi Customs Department) announced that it had received the appraisal results from the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources on the shipment of 11 pieces of animal tusks that the agency recently seized. The results showed that this was elephant tusks with a total weight of about 11 kg.

Specifically, during the screening of abandoned, lost, or mistaken luggage of flight VN417, Incheon-Noi Bai route on March 15, the Import Baggage Procedures Team - Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch discovered 2 soft suitcases without luggage tags (total weight of 60.66 kg including packaging) containing products suspected of originating from ivory.
The Import Baggage Procedures Team coordinated with Noi Bai Operation Center (NOC) and Noi Bai Ground Trading Enterprise (NIAGS) to make a record and temporarily detain all 2 suitcases containing the goods inside.
Next, in accordance with legal regulations, Noi Bai Customs Branch coordinated with the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department - General Department of Customs; Customs Control Team and Management Supervision Department - Hanoi Customs Department and local authorities to open the seal and examine the above shipment. The shipment included 11 pieces of animal tusks.
The Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources has taken 11 samples for examination according to regulations. According to the initial examination results, the above goods are ivory.
Currently, all of the ivory has been sealed and is under the responsibility of the Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch./.
