Abandoned newborn baby girl found on stream bank at night

(Baonghean.vn) - People discovered a baby girl with her umbilical cord still intact, abandoned by the stream on a cold night.

On the morning of November 25, Mr. Vo Khanh Toan, Chairman of Tien Phong Commune People's Committee (Que Phong District, Nghe An), said that local authorities had widely announced the case of a newborn baby girl abandoned in the area. In case a month passes but no relatives come to claim her, the authorities will complete the procedures to hand over the baby to the family who found her for adoption.

According to Mr. Toan, at around 8:00 p.m. on November 23, the daughter of Mr. Luong Van Hung (46 years old, Tien Phong commune, Que Phong district) heard a baby crying behind the house and called for help from her family. Using a flashlight 60 meters from the house, Mr. Hung saw a baby lying on its back on the grass next to the stream, naked, with the umbilical cord still attached.

“It wasn’t raining at the time but it was very cold. The baby had just been born and had nothing beside him,” said the Chairman of the Commune People’s Committee.

Mr. Hung and his family quickly lit a fire to warm up, found milk to feed the child to save her life and informed the authorities. The baby girl was then examined by medical staff, determined to be in normal health, weighing about 2.7 kg.

"Mr. Hung's family has two daughters, but still wishes to adopt the child. If after a month no relatives come to claim the child, we will hand it over to them," said Mr. Toan.
