With today's achievements in body anatomy, few people thought that medicine would discover new organs until a group of scientists from New York Medical University (USA) published their research. On the newspaperScientific Reports, they said they found a network of fluid-filled spaces in the tissue called interstitium.
According toScientific America, the fluid-filled spaces are located in the connective tissue.under the skin, lining the digestive system, lungs, urinary system and surrounding muscles. Previously, interstitium was mistaken for collagen.
Not only does it protect the body from injury thanks to its shock absorption ability, the authors believe that interstitium is also the answer to the metastatic process of cancer. This organ helps transport fluids throughout the body, so it is likely that cancer "takes advantage" of it to spread to the lymph nodes. In addition to cancer, the discovery of the interstitium is also important for the study of edema, fibrosis, and the mechanical activity of organ tissues.
According toNewsweekIf accepted by the scientific community, the interstitium would become the 80th official human organ.
