Stone turtle and ancient stone stele discovered in Quang Tri
On the morning of March 21, Mr. Nguyen Huynh, head of Tra Lien Tay village, Trieu Giang commune, Trieu Phong district (Quang Tri) said that local people had just discovered a stone turtle and an ancient stone stele.
Previously, on March 18, Mr. Trinh Hai Hung discovered these artifacts while clearing his garden and then dug them up and buried them elsewhere. On March 20, the villagers discovered the incident, the village held an emergency meeting and decided to bring these two artifacts back to their original location.
The ancient stone turtle is quite large, about 0.9m long and 0.6m wide, and is currently missing one leg. The stone stele is broken in half, with only two Chinese characters remaining, which translate to “Viet” and “An.”
According to the judgment of the elders in the village, it is very likely that the two above-mentioned antiques are located in the Turtle Tomb, dating back about 300 years ago. Currently, the turtle and the ancient stele are still being looked after by the people and they hope that the government will intervene to take timely protection measures./.
