(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, a working group from the Institute of Archaeology and staff from the Management Board of Monuments and Landscapes (Nghe An Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism) made a research trip through Anh Son district and discovered an interesting cave.
From Anh Son town center, through Km72 of National Highway 7, turn left about 1km, the vast and majestic mountain and forest scenery, weaving through the bushes, the archaeological team entered close to the limestone mountain range (Lén) with an age of more than 500 million years, found a cave with 3 doors, 2 lower doors and 1 ventilation door (the left door is 3.8m high, 9m wide; the right door is 6m high, 8.7m wide), overwhelmed by the beauty of a cave located in the Western region of Nghe An, the stone pillars are as big as the Heavenly Pillar, more than 13m high, the unique formations that nature has bestowed upon humans, the cave is about 400m long, the ceiling is higher than 30m in some places, stalactites, stalagmites, terraced fields, images of animals...

The cave is located in the northwest of Tuong Son commune, Anh Son district. After finding this cave, the archaeological team met with local people to learn more. It is known that local people used to go into the cave and mine phosphate to fertilize their fields, so some people there often call the cave Phot Phat Cave. In the cave, there are many stalactites and stalagmites with many different shapes such as: Buddha, Elephant, terraced fields... so some people call it Elephant Cave or Buddha Cave...
Regardless of its name, “Elephant Cave” needs further investment in infrastructure to exploit and serve tourists, contributing to enriching tourist destinations, bringing economic efficiency while preserving and promoting the archaeological values and scenic spots of the province.
In the near future, this cave promises to be an attractive tourist destination for visitors to Anh Son as well as to Nghe An. This cave is only about 112km from Vinh city and 323km from Hanoi capital.
