Bacteria linked to obesity discovered
According to the results of a research published in a recent issue of a Chinese journal on ecology, a group of Chinese scientists have discovered a type of bacteria that may be the cause of obesity.
In the study, scientists from a university in Shanghai discovered a type of bacteria known as enterobacteria that is linked to obesity after examining the intestines of an obese person and finding a large amount of enterobacteria in his intestines.

In another experiment, researchers injected mice with bacteria found in humans for more than 10 weeks, while feeding the mice high-fat foods. As a result, the mice became significantly overweight.
Through experiments in which an obese patient lost over 30kg in nine weeks after following a diet that included ingredients that reduced the number of gut bacteria, researchers determined that gut bacteria may be responsible for the progression of obesity.
According to these scientists, a reasonable diet including nuts, traditional Chinese dishes or prebiotics (a type of bacteria that prevents the harmful effects of other bacteria from entering the intestine) also reduces the number of bacteria in the intestines of obese patients.
Additionally, a diet that includes fermented probiotic foods like bitter melon also helps regulate the balance of bacteria in the gut.
According to the World Health Organization, the number of people suffering from obesity worldwide has more than doubled from 1980 to 2008 with over 500 million adults suffering from the disease./.
