Ancient jar discovered in Phong Nha cave

At 3:30 p.m. on March 20, some tour guides from Phong Nha-Ke Bang Tourism Center suddenly discovered an ancient jar right in Phong Nha Cave.

The ancient jar was discovered stuck right on the cave wall, about 100m from Bi Ki cave of Phong Nha cave. The jar is dark brown, 65cm high, about 50cm in diameter. On the surface of the ancient jar there is a quite delicate patterned border.

Mr. Hoang Dang Lam, one of the tour guides who discovered the ancient jar, said: At that time, he was guiding tourists when he accidentally shined a light and discovered it. The ancient jar was located on the cave wall, close to the edge of the underground river and was covered by stalactites, so it was very difficult to detect.

According to initial assessment, this could be a jar used to contain artifacts or remains as a common burial method of the ancient Cham people, because the place where the jar was discovered is not far from Bi Ki cave.

Bi Ki Cave is considered to preserve many cultural features of the ancient Cham people, including many writings on the cave walls.

Currently, Phong Nha-Ke Bang Tourism Center is increasing its force to protect the newly discovered ancient jar in the spirit of maintaining the current status while waiting for instructions from the authorities./.
