Hundreds of years old whale tomb discovered

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 13, while the Party Committee and people of Dai Bac village, Quynh Long commune (Quynh Luu) were digging the foundation to build the surrounding wall of the Whale Temple, they unexpectedly discovered a large ancient whale skeleton, possibly buried for hundreds of years.

Accordingly, while workers were using an excavator to dig the foundation to build the wall surrounding the Whale Temple in Dai Bac village, Quynh Long commune (Quynh Luu), they discovered large bones with unusual shapes.

Whale skeleton has just been discovered

Upon receiving the news, the authorities arrived at the scene and, together with the local people, excavated and brought some bones up from the ground. According to the local people, these strange bones were the bones of a large whale, which the local fishermen often called the Whale, which was buried hundreds of years ago on the coast of Thon Dai Bac.

This is identified as the body of a whale under the sand layer.

At the scene, many fragments of skull were found, some fragments were more than 40 cm in diameter, many vertebrae were 10-20 cm long, in addition, many bones were decomposed, the bones were covered with a layer of fine white sand.

According to the structure of the skeleton in the tomb, it is estimated that the whale was about 25-30m long before being buried.

On the morning of May 13, the local authorities reported to the Department of Culture and Information of Quynh Luu district, and coordinated with the people to complete the necessary procedures and rebury all the whale bones according to local customs.
