The first outbreak of African swine fever was detected in Hung Nguyen district.

(Baonghean.vn) - Test results show that all samples of sick and dead pigs in hamlet 1, Hung Trung commune (Hung Nguyen) are positive for African swine fever. This is the first outbreak in Hung Nguyen district, the 11th district in Nghe An province to have this disease.

Previously, on May 16, many families in Hamlet 1, Hung Trung Commune (Hung Nguyen) had sick and dead pigs, including households: Nguyen Van Nam, Phan Thi An, Trinh Ba Tam, Nguyen Hong Nam and Nguyen Van Truong. The households reported to the local authorities, and that same afternoon, the veterinary agency took samples from these households.

Test results on the evening of May 17 showed that all specimens were positive for African swine fever. On the morning of May 18, Hung Nguyen district destroyed the pig herd according to the correct procedure, including: 2 sows, weighing 480 kg and 32 pigs weighing 1,718 kg.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Thai, head of Hamlet 1, Hung Trung Commune, said: This place is adjacent to Nghi Loc district, where the epidemic occurred before. In addition, the Cau market area here has many small traders selling pork every day. It is not impossible that the disease spread from there.

Hung Trung Commune has issued a notice prohibiting the slaughter, sale, and transportation of pigs in the epidemic area. In addition to the 24 liters of chemicals provided by the district veterinary station, the commune has purchased 2 tons of lime powder to fight the epidemic.

Immediately after the outbreak, we set up 4 quarantine checkpoints, including 2 checkpoints adjacent to Hung Yen Bac commune (Hung Nguyen) and 2 checkpoints adjacent to Nghi Dien and Nghi Cong Nam communes (Nghi Loc) to control vehicles and animals entering and leaving the epidemic area.

As of May 18, African swine fever has appeared in 11 localities in Nghe An, including: Quynh Luu, Tan Ky, Nam Dan, Do Luong, Quy Hop, Quy Chau, Hoang Mai town, Thanh Chuong, Dien Chau, Nghi Loc and Hung Nguyen.
