Large quantity of rare animal horns and bones discovered
Checking a shipment from South Africa to Tien Sa port, Da Nang authorities discovered more than 138kg of animal horns suspected to be rhino horns and more than 3.1 tons of animal bones suspected to be those of rare animals.

By July 17, the Department had coordinated with the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department (General Department of Customs), the Environmental Police Department (C05) - Ministry of Public Security, Da Nang City Police, Coast Guard Region 2 Command and Da Nang Port Border Guard to conduct the search.
When opening the container, all goods are packed in carton boxes wrapped tightly with nylon rope with different sizes, types, weights and stacked separately in the container, declared with the commodity code as wood.
However, during the inspection, the authorities discovered more than 3 tons of animal bones and horns suspected to be on the list of wild animals and plants regulated in the appendices of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
Currently, the authorities are continuing to verify, investigate and handle according to the provisions of law.
According to the Da Nang City Customs Department, since the beginning of June 2021, the Department has detected and established a special project to combat and closely monitor the transportation route of the shipment with suspicious signs./.
