After directly examining the gun, Mr. Tran Xuan Ca, Director of Yen Bai Provincial Museum, confirmed that this is a Nguyen Dynasty cannon, cast in the 13th year of Minh Mang - 1832. The evidence is that the year of manufacture is embossed in Chinese characters on the gun body, the letters are still quite intact and clear.
The cannon is 121 cm long, cast from cast iron alloy and weighs about 400 kg. The gun is cylindrical and is divided into 3 distinct parts: the barrel, the barrel and the handle. The diameter of the gun muzzle is 25 cm long, the circumference of the part with the broken ear is 75 cm, the circumference of the firing point is 91 cm, the handle is 7 cm long. The gun is made up of many chambers with small uneven raised edges surrounding the body. The barrel has two symmetrical circular drum ears, called the axis of rotation and supporting the gun when placed on the base. Near the tail there is a small circular hole, about 1 cm in diameter, this is the firing hole for detonation.
This is the fourth Nguyen Dynasty cannon discovered in Yen Bai province. This cannon is currently preserved at Yen Bai Provincial Museum, continuing to be researched, evaluated and soon displayed for people to admire, contributing to educating the tradition of building and defending the country of our people.
