On April 8, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Nguyen said that at the end of March, while digging the foundation for the library of Nam Tien Secondary School (Pho Yen district), local people discovered an ancient stone stele.

This stone stele is a monolithic, black stone slab, measuring 60 x 37cm. On the top of the stele is engraved the image of the Sun, on both sides are engraved symbols of two dragons, below are three Chinese characters "Phối âm bi", the border of the stele is decorated with vines and chrysanthemums.

Inside the stele are engraved nine lines of Chinese characters, the longest line has 21 characters, the least has 5 characters; the total lines have nearly 200 Chinese characters. The carvings on the stele are deep, showing sophistication, clear letter spacing, and generous writing style. At the end of the stele, the date of erection is clearly recorded as November 29, the 3rd year of Thanh Thai, Tan Mao (1891).

Preliminary research by the professional agency shows that the content of the stele is about remembering the merits of students who contributed to building the school and worshiping local teachers.

The content shown on the stele recorded that at least 120 years ago, Hoang Dam commune (now Nam Tien commune, Pho Yen district) had a school facility, which coincides with the book Dong Khanh du dia chi (1888) recorded in the section of Pho Yen district during the feudal period: "Hoang Dam commune in the lower reaches is a place where there is learning and passing exams."

This is the first time an ancient stone stele of writing has been discovered in Thai Nguyen. The stele has been brought to Thai Nguyen Museum for preservation and scientific research./.
