Discovered another lizard species endemic to Vietnam
At Yang Bay waterfall, Khanh Hoa province, scientists have just discovered a new species of toe-footed lizard with the largest head length of about 92.3 mm. This lizard species is believed to be endemic to Vietnam.
The new lizard species is named Yang Bay toe-footed lizard – Cyrtodactylus yangbayensis sp. nov. Ngo & Chan, 2010. This work was published in the journal Zootaxa 2504, issue 4/6/2010.

The head of this lizard has small black spots, the eyes are blue-black with yellow-orange pupils, the neck has intermittent rings, on the back there are 4-6 irregular brown-black stripes or sometimes spots on the body between the forelegs and hind legs, there are 6-8 pre-ventral holes in males, the tail has alternating brown and pale brown stripes.
There are currently about 20 species of toe-footed lizards known in our country, but up to 90% are endemic species, they are widely distributed throughout Vietnam, in many different habitats such as forests, limestone mountains, granite mountains...
