Playing cards found to contain radioactive substances
On August 19, Quang Ninh Provincial Police announced that they had just discovered and arrested a subject for illegally buying, selling, and possessing 4 sets of playing cards containing radioactive substances.

The police seized the above 4 sets of cards at the breakfast shop of Bui Dinh Chung (born in 1980, in group 3, Minh Hoa area, Cam Binh ward, Cam Pha). Through investigation, this subject confessed that someone wanted to buy a set of cards with Tang (containing radioactive substances) and accompanying accessories to cheat in gambling.
On August 14, Chung contacted a person in Hanoi to buy 4 decks of cards and accessories for 1.7 million VND. On August 15, Chung received the 4 decks and kept them at his home until the person who ordered them came to pick them up, but was arrested by the police.
The results of radiation safety measurements by the Center for Application of Science and Technology Advances - Department of Science and Technology of Quang Ninh province determined that the 4 decks of cards above contain X-rays, which are radioactive substances, exceeding the allowable level by 20-30 times, posing a danger to human health and the living environment.
The appraisal results of the Vietnam Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology later also determined that in 4 decks of playing cards weighing 0.2 kg, radioactive substances were found to emit a gamma energy spectrum with a peak of ~ Coke V with a total activity of about 3.7.10Bq (specific activity > 70 Bq/kg).
The Investigation Police Department of Quang Ninh Province has decided to prosecute the case for further investigation.
