Previously, after receiving the report, the Economic Security Department, Traffic Police Team 1-46 under the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department of Nghe An Public Security coordinated with the Nghe An Market Management Department to deploy forces to inspect the Laotian sleeper bus with license plate UN - 6789 at Ben Thuy Bridge in Vinh City, driven by driver Nguyen Ngoc Dong (born in 1977), residing in Dien Yen, Dien Chau, in the direction from Laos through Cau Treo Border Gate to Hanoi. During the process of stopping the vehicle for inspection, the authorities discovered a number of cosmetic products originating from abroad and asked the vehicle owner to present documents, but the vehicle owner could not present documents of origin of the goods, the authorities asked the vehicle owner and the goods to return to the headquarters of the Nghe An Market Management Department for clarification.
Through the investigation and inspection of the vehicle, the authorities discovered a large amount of wood suspected to be rosewood weighing 555kg and cosmetics including: 520 bottles of various types of shower gel, 96 bottles of shampoo, 147 packs of facial cleanser, 40 cans of fabric softener, 12 cans of dishwashing liquid, 526 lipsticks, the total value of the shipment according to initial estimates was over 300 million VND. All of the above goods did not have legal documents according to regulations. In particular, when the authorities conducted a vehicle inspection, they discovered that the vehicle was very sophisticatedly designed with many hidden compartments and used hydraulic doors to conceal the contraband.
Currently, the authorities have decided to temporarily detain the vehicle for further investigation.
