Panic over Champions League final ticket prices
Man United fans in particular and fans around the world in general are expressing their dissatisfaction with the sky-high prices of tickets to the upcoming Champions League final at Wembley.
It is estimated that a family of four will have to pay £1,500 to watch the historic final between Manchester United and Barcelona at Wembley, where Matt Busby's side won their first European Cup 43 years ago, beating Benfica. That includes the ticket price and travel costs to London.
According to a recent announcement, the Champions League final will have 4 different types of tickets sold. The most VIP tickets cost up to 300 pounds, while to own a ticket to watch their idols compete on a screen placed at the stadium, fans will have to spend up to 80 pounds. The remaining 2 types of tickets cost 225 and 150 pounds.
Even UEFA President Michel Platini admitted that the European Football Federation was wrong to set such a terrible price and promised to review it next season.
The Manchester United Supporters' Trust expressed outrage at the high cost of watching their favourite team play. "We knew from the finals in Moscow and Rome that ticket prices would be high but this is still a scandal. When fans have spent a lot of money to follow the team since the beginning of the season, they should get better deals."
However, not everyone with money can own these expensive tickets. Fans who regularly go to cheer on the away matches will be given priority to buy first, followed by those who only come to watch at home and fans who usually watch on TV.
The tickets are even being sold at exorbitant prices on the black market. On globalticketmarket.com, a £150 ticket is being offered for up to £6,000. On eBay, a pair of Wembley tickets have been offered for £6,600, but no one is selling.
Of the 86,000 tickets issued, Man United and Barcelona were allocated 25,000 tickets, another 25,000 tickets were part of the UEFA “European Football Family” tickets, and the remaining 11,000 tickets were sold to neutral fans.
