Country Millionaires

Coming to Dien Trung, we were really impressed with the large-scale shrimp ponds, the well-planned chicken and pig farms. That is thanks to the people's bold response to the policy of the Party Committee and the government to convert ineffective agricultural land to develop livestock and aquaculture. The land does not fail the people, many people have really changed their lives, becoming millionaires of the village. Veteran Ngo Xuan Dai in hamlet 4 is one of the pioneers in bidding for land on Ngam La beach to get rich. From the initial area of 1.7 hectares, his shrimp farm has now expanded to 4 hectares.

To implement the VietGAP shrimp farming model, in addition to the province's support of 50 million VND, CCB Le Xuan Dai has invested more than 2 billion VND to build infrastructure according to standards including water supply and drainage systems, settling ponds, food warehouses... each year, raising 2 crops is guaranteed, earning from 40 - 43 tons of shrimp, minus expenses, earning several billion VND in profit. Mr. Nguyen Cuong, hamlet 14, is also one of the shrimp farming millionaires in Dien Trung, said: My family has 7 shrimp ponds on an area of 2 hectares, with an average income of over 1 billion VND in profit, it is not an exaggeration to say that thanks to shrimp, we have "changed our lives". In addition to 4 regular workers, with the highest income of 6 million VND/month, Mr. Cuong's family farm also creates jobs for 10 seasonal workers. Many shrimp farming households also buy pickup trucks to transport goods. From a few households to now, Dien Trung has had 41 households participating in white-leg shrimp farming with an area of over 30 hectares in 3 dam areas: Rang, Ngam Bang, and Le Muoi.

Besides shrimp farming, Dien Thinh people have developed strongly in livestock and poultry farming, focusing mainly on raising Cibi chickens and pigs. Many people have boldly accepted poor and ineffective land to invest in developing farm economy. Currently, there are 168 farms in the area, including 7 large farms with a scale of 6,000-10,000 chickens, generating an income of 80-100 million VND/batch such as Ho Huu Sy (Hamlet 4), Ho Sy Sinh, Pham Tu (Hamlet 10), Cao Van Cu (Hamlet 4). Visiting the 1,700m2 broiler farm with quite modern investment, ensuring environmental hygiene, with a scale of 7,500 chickens of Mr. Le Van An - one of the millionaire chicken farmers in Hamlet 2A. He happily said: every year my family raises about 7 batches of chickens, net profit is around 100 million VND. Not stopping at raising chickens, this veteran is also implementing a project to raise eels and is planning to receive more land to raise crabs... determined to get rich on difficult land.

Dynamic development

Talking about the changes of Dien Trung today, Mr. Ho Cong Thang - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee recalled: Originally a coastal commune, with 2,035 households and 10,369 people, while the cultivated land was only 500 hectares, most of which was barren and dry, so the lives of Dien Trung people encountered many difficulties. After many struggles with the problem of hunger eradication and poverty reduction, the Party Committee and the commune government developed and implemented a project to convert ineffective, saline agricultural lands into livestock, poultry and aquaculture farms. Thanks to that, barren, barren, acidic lands gradually turned into shrimp ponds and large farms with high economic value. In order to convert crops and livestock into commodities, in addition to training and transferring science and technology to the people, the Party Committee and the government also directed associations such as the Women's Union, the Farmers' Association, and the Veterans' Association to act as collateral for bank loans for poor members to invest in livestock development. The commune also created conditions for people to bid for fallow land and ponds to make VACs, such as through the implementation of Directive 08 on land consolidation and plot exchange, many people had the opportunity to receive areas of acid sulfate land to make livestock farms...

The policy is like that, but the process of changing people's thinking and way of doing is not easy, so cadres, party members, and members of associations must be pioneers so that people believe and follow. Many commune cadres are also leading examples in developing economic households and farms such as the family of Commune Captain Ho Sau or the family of Vice Chairman Ho Quoc Thang with a farm of 200 pigs, 4,000 laying hens, creating jobs for 2-5 workers with an average income of 4 million VND/month...

To ensure the stability of product output, the commune proactively cooperates with a number of companies and a project to develop clean goods such as shrimp farming under the VietGAP program, the clean chicken farming project with Cibi Company not only receives support for breeds and feed but also has its output consumed. Thanks to that, people are confident in expanding the scale of livestock farming throughout the commune, with small households raising a few dozen or a few hundred pigs, while large households raise thousands of pigs. Mr. Tuyen, Farmers' Association, who took us to visit good economic models, said: Dien Trung people are getting rich thanks to developing livestock farming and aquaculture. From a few small ponds, the whole commune now has more than 30 hectares of shrimp, with an output of 150 tons, 168 large and small farms with a total herd of livestock and poultry of up to 1,621,000 animals... In addition, to solve the surplus labor, the commune encourages people to promote the advantages of the coastal plain, with a length of 6.8 km along the sea to develop near-shore fishing activities, promote labor export, the whole commune has more than 1,007 workers working in industrial parks and 30 people going to work abroad. Coming to Dien Trung today, wherever you go, you can hear people talking about doing business, expanding the scale of farms, ranches...

The diligence and dynamism of the Party Committee, the government and the people of Dien Trung in changing the farming method, boldly converting the structure of crops and livestock towards commodities with high economic value, has been changing the face of this land. The economic growth rate has been maintained at a stable level of 18.5%, the average income per capita reached 19.2 million VND/year... The economy has developed, the material and spiritual life of the people has been increasingly improved. Thanks to the active participation and contribution of the people, many key works serving the people such as bridges, one-stop transaction centers, schools, An Ngai road from hamlet 7B-2B... have been repaired, upgraded, and 75% of rural roads have been concreted, of which 4 hamlets have reached 100%... creating a new look for the commune in the coastal area.
