On the afternoon of May 17, Tuong Duong district held the 3rd Congress of Ethnic Minorities in 2019.

Progress in implementing Ethnic Policy
In recent years, Tuong Duong's socio-economy has developed quite well with an economic growth rate of 7.8% in the period 2014 - 2018 (average 2.34%/year), average income per capita of 27 million VND/year.

The economic structure has shifted rapidly towards reducing the proportion of agriculture - forestry - fishery (from 36.3% in 2014 to 10.9% in 2018) and increasing the proportion of industry - construction (from 31.3% in 2014 to 69.5% in 2018), initially forming concentrated raw material areas, the rate of poor households has decreased from 45.39% (in 2014) to 30.48% (in 2018).

Cultural and social infrastructure has been invested in and developed, 18/18 communes and towns have cultural and information facilities, of which 4 communes have met the standards. The quality of education has been increasingly improved, the rate of junior high school graduates in the 2017-2018 school year reached 97.8%; the rate of high school graduates reached 98.86%, 26 schools have met national standards, 100% of communes and towns have spacious and solid medical stations, 15 communes have met the national criteria for health.

The work of building a team of ethnic minority cadres has always been given attention from the planning stage to training, fostering and deployment. The number of ethnic minority cadres and civil servants as of 2018 was more than 1,200 people, accounting for 54.94% of the total number of civil servants in the district...
Exploit potential and strengths appropriately
On that basis, Tuong Duong district sets out the general goal of ethnic work until 2025 as follows: rationally and effectively exploiting potentials and strengths to comprehensively develop politics, economy, culture, society and security - defense. Well implementing ethnic policies; paying attention to developing and nurturing human resources; taking care of building a team of ethnic minority cadres; preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups.

From there, the target is to strive for a total production value of nearly 9,155 billion VND; average income per capita of 35-40 million VND/year; reduce the proportion of agriculture - forestry - fishery to 25%, increase the proportion of industry - construction to 28% and the proportion of services to 47%. At the same time, reduce the poverty rate to below 10%, strive for 100% of schools to meet national standards and 100% of communes to meet national standards on Cultural - Information - Sports institutions...

At the Congress, delegates discussed issues of promoting the building of great solidarity; educating cultural traditions in schools; promoting the role of village elders and prestigious people in the fight against illegal proselytizing; fighting against drug crimes; building models of economic development; caring for, protecting and developing forests...
On this occasion, 34 official delegates and 2 alternate delegates attended the 3rd Congress of Ethnic Minorities of Nghe An province. At the same time, 9 individuals were awarded the Medal for the Development of Ethnic Minorities by the Central Ethnic Committee; 2 groups and 15 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Provincial Ethnic Committee and 7 groups and 24 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the District People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in implementing ethnic policies.

Tuong Duong district is located in the southwest of Nghe An province, with an area of 280,777.68 km2 (accounting for 17%), has 17 communes, 01 town with 154 villages, of which 4 are border communes and 1 international border gate in Tam Hop commune with 67.069 km of border adjacent to Laos.
