Promoting tradition, working together to build a prosperous Nghe An homeland (*)

(Baonghean) - (Excerpt from the speech of Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee at the meeting with fellow countrymen and Nghe An Business Association in Hanoi).

… In 2013, Nghe An province continued to receive attention and support from the Central Government, especially the Politburo issued Resolution No. 26 - NQ/BCT dated July 30, 2013 on the direction and tasks for developing Nghe An province until 2020. The provincial leadership had changes in key officials but was soon stabilized, ensuring solidarity, unity and high consensus.

2013 was also a year of many difficulties for the province. The impact of storms No. 8, 10, 11 caused severe damage to infrastructure, production, and life; at the grassroots level, a number of complicated incidents occurred; production and business activities were not favorable, but with the leadership, direction, determination, and synchronous participation of the entire political system, the Party Committee and the people of the province overcame difficulties, striving to achieve many outstanding and encouraging results: Growth rate reached 7%/year. Completed and exceeded 20/25 socio-economic development targets; Budget revenue showed signs of improvement, reaching 6,487 billion VND for the whole year, equal to 123.1% of the estimate; Average income per capita reached nearly 24 million VND. Foreign affairs and investment promotion activities achieved many positive results. Notably, the organization of a meeting with investors in the early spring of Quy Ty, a number of investment promotion conferences and many activities to contact, work and discuss cooperation with potential partners.

Some important projects that have been stalled for a long time have been restarted; Many large economic groups have come to Nghe An to survey and will soon invest, such as Becamex Binh Duong Group, Viet SHIP, Ton Hoa Sen... The quality of education has many positive changes. The quality of excellent students is stable and solid, achieving many achievements in national and international excellent student competitions, university and college admissions. In 2013, our province had one more university, Vinh University of Industry (there are 5 universities in the province). Social security is guaranteed, the poverty rate has decreased to 12.5%; timely support for localities to overcome damage caused by storms and floods to soon restore production and stabilize life. Issues related to security and order have been basically resolved well; in particular, a number of complicated cases have been promptly, comprehensively and effectively led, directed and handled. The work of Party building and political system building has had many positive changes. The quality of the political system's activities has been significantly improved, most levels and sectors have had clear changes in improving the quality and effectiveness of political task implementation, actively contributing to the completion of the province's common tasks.

To achieve the above results, besides the efforts of the Party Committee, the government and the people of the province, there are also great, effective and practical contributions from Nghe An people living far from home and uncles, brothers and sisters living in Hanoi. Your attention has been, is and will be a great source of motivation for the socio-economic development of our province.

In recent times, the Nghe An Association in Hanoi has had many practical activities towards the homeland, such as: Organizing traditional spring meetings every year; organizing longevity celebrations for the elderly; paying attention to and helping people in difficult circumstances, building a scholarship fund; mobilizing businesses to invest in Nghe An... The Liaison Committee and the people, uncles and aunts are united and always care to encourage and help the province... On behalf of the provincial leaders, I would like to sincerely thank you for your important feelings and contributions in the past time. At the same time, I hope that the children of Nghe An who are working and living in Hanoi will continue to promote the tradition of affection, solidarity, love, helping each other in life and always turn towards their homeland.

Entering 2014, our province has many opportunities but is facing challenges. The term is running out; production and business activities are forecasted to face many difficulties. Currently, the province is implementing the 2014 tasks with many synchronous and drastic solutions, aiming at the general goal: continuing to improve the investment environment, mobilizing and effectively using resources, promoting sustainable business development, gradually re-establishing a solid growth momentum on the basis of implementing the economic restructuring project; breaking through and accelerating to achieve the highest level of socio-economic, defense and security goals in 2014, the 5-year socio-economic development plan (2011-2015); ensuring social security and welfare, improving people's lives; maintaining political stability, consolidating national defense, ensuring security and social order and safety.

To achieve the set goals and tasks, the province needs to mobilize the strength of the entire political system, the drastic participation of agencies, departments, branches at all levels, the entire people and the greater attention of Nghe An people living far from home. In the immediate future, we hope that: For those who are working, in the spirit of Resolution 26 of the Politburo, they need to pay attention to providing information, giving advice, creating favorable relationships for the province to enhance promotion, cooperation and attracting resources for the province; For businesses and entrepreneurs, they need to pay attention to cooperating and investing in their hometowns in areas where they have strengths, supporting the province in solving labor problems, ensuring social security, contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction; For those who have retired under the regime, with the knowledge and experience gained through the working process, to contribute, share and create relationships for the province to have solutions, decisions and expand cooperative relationships to promote the socio-economic development of the province.

With the aspiration to rise up for the increasingly prosperous homeland, we will all join hands to build an increasingly developed and strong Nghe An, striving to become a fairly developed province in the Northern region and basically become an industrial province as Resolution 26 - NQ/BCT of the Politburo proposed, worthy of being the homeland of beloved Uncle Ho.
