PV:Sir, could you please give us an overview of the role of the working class in the revolutionary cause and in the socio-economic development of your province?

Mr. Pham Van Tan: Together with the working class in the whole country, the working class in our province plays a very important role in the revolutionary cause and in the socio-economic development. The demonstration of over 1,200 workers and farmers in Truong Thi-Ben Thuy and surrounding areas on May 1, 1930 opened the Nghe-Tinh Soviet movement. This was a special event, demonstrating the extraordinary strength and determination of the worker-peasant alliance in the struggle for rights, demonstrating solidarity with the working class around the world.

Up to now, the whole province has over 165,000 workers and civil servants, of which nearly 6,000 workers work in 9 industrial parks in the province. With the spirit of hard work and creativity, the working class has contributed significantly to the implementation of the Party's policies and guidelines, the socio-economic tasks of the province, bringing Nghe An's economy to a fairly good growth rate, shifting towards industrialization and modernization. The movements "Creative labor emulation"; "Good labor"... have been actively responded to by workers. The team of workers is always conscious of seeking, studying to improve their qualifications, skills, and accumulating experience; Many workers have highly applicable technical innovation initiatives, increasing productivity and labor efficiency;... A typical example is Mr. Dang Van Thanh, a worker at Nghe An Road Construction and Design Consulting Joint Stock Company with the initiative "Opening the way to bring construction equipment down to the abyss" contributing to reducing construction time, speeding up the project's progress, and saving hundreds of millions of dong for the company; that is worker Tran Dinh Hao (Khe Bo-Tuong Duong Coal Joint Stock Company) with many initiatives in improving labor productivity, ensuring safety in production...

PV: In the past, what activities has the Provincial Trade Union done to take care of the lives of workers, sir?

Mr. Pham Van Tan:With the role of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers, in recent times, the Provincial Labor Union has focused on propagating and educating workers about politics and ideology; regularly organizing competitions to improve and maintain worker ranks, selecting "Golden Hands"...; creating conditions for workers to improve their education, skills, and legal knowledge; diversifying forms of mobilization and gathering workers to join the Union; regularly inspecting and supervising the implementation of labor laws and policies for workers in enterprises and production facilities... Currently, the Provincial Labor Union is developing the Project "Establishing a Trade Union in Industrial Parks" and coordinating with related sectors to develop the Project "Developing the Nghe An working class in the period of industrialization and modernization in the period of 2011-2015, with orientation to 2020". These projects, once approved and implemented, will actively contribute to improving and enhancing workers' lives in all aspects...

PV:Could you please tell us the purpose and significance of the activities implementing "Workers' Month" in 2011?

Mr. Pham Van Tan:This year is the first year that the Standing Committee of the Provincial Federation of Labor has decided to implement "Workers' Month" to raise awareness among workers, promote the tradition of Truong Thi - Ben Thuy, the resilient will, dynamism and creativity of the working class of the province. At the same time, demonstrate the spirit and responsibility of the Trade Union organization towards workers, strengthen the relationship between the Trade Union - workers - enterprises. Call on the whole society to pay more attention to the rights and lives of the working class, contributing to building a working class that develops in quantity and quality.

To practically celebrate International Labor Day on May 1 and implement "Workers' Month", the Provincial Federation of Labor focuses on the following activities: Propagating and educating workers about the history of International Labor Day; launching and organizing the movements "Good Labor", "Creative Labor"; encouraging enterprises to sign and implement collective labor agreements; organizing meetings, exchanges and dialogues with workers; organizing visits, giving gifts, cultural and sports exchanges for workers; promoting the work of developing union members, introducing workers who are excellent union members for the Party to consider and admit...
