(Baonghean) - Nghe An Red Cross is a humanitarian organization in the homeland of President Ho Chi Minh - the first Honorary President of the Association. After 35 years of establishment and dedication, the Nghe An people's morality of "Love others as you love yourself" is increasingly demonstrated through the activities of the Red Cross.

Nghe An has the largest area in the country (16,500 km2), of which mountainous areas account for 83%, and people's lives still face many difficulties. With 11 mountainous districts, of which 5 are border districts; 4 are poor districts according to the criteria of Resolution 30a of the Government. The poverty rate is still high, there are many vulnerable people, especially war victims, victims of Agent Orange, victims of natural disasters and catastrophes. Every year, the province has to endure many storms, causing floods and heavy losses to people and property. Therefore, with its responsibility, over the past time, the Provincial Red Cross has strived to constantly care for and assist disadvantaged people in society, contributing to creating consensus and stabilizing the material and spiritual life of people at the grassroots level; at the same time, arousing the spirit of mutual love and affection in the community, building an increasingly better life.

In recent years, the association has paid attention to organizing emergency relief and humanitarian assistance, and the results have always been among the top in the country. The movements "Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims", "Each organization and individual is associated with a humanitarian address", "Action month for Agent Orange victims"; movements to repay gratitude, eliminate hunger, reduce poverty, award scholarships... have always been focused on.

Primary health care for the people has been increasingly improved. All levels of the association have coordinated with the health sector to disseminate knowledge about disease prevention and provide free medical examinations and medicines, and humanitarian eye surgeries for thousands of people; equipping first aid and emergency knowledge for Red Cross staff and volunteers at the grassroots level. In particular, voluntary blood donation has not only developed among students, staff and civil servants but has also spread to remote areas and ethnic minority areas such as Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, Ky Son, Quy Chau, Quy Hop... providing enough blood for emergency treatment and treatment for patients and reserve in case of major incidents for hospitals in the province.

The Red Cross has been showing initiative, dynamism and creativity in implementing disaster prevention and response work, with the motto "4 on-site", being proactive in all situations when there are natural disasters, promptly providing emergency relief and rehabilitation for the people. In addition, the association also takes advantage of support from the Central, national associations and international organizations to implement many large programs and projects, helping people prevent disasters and escape poverty sustainably such as: "Planting mangrove forests - disaster prevention", "School nutrition and hygiene education", "Cow bank"...

It can be said that the cadres, members, youth and volunteers of the Red Cross of the province have thoroughly grasped, creatively and effectively applied the basic principles of the international Red Cross - Red Crescent movement; the Law on Red Cross activities and the guidelines and policies of the Party Committee and the government into the association's practical activities.

The humanitarian movement in the province in recent years has had many remarkable changes. In the past 5 years, in the field of social work, the associations at all levels have supported and helped over 100,000 people with special difficulties, people with disabilities, victims of Agent Orange, orphans, lonely elderly people, people affected by natural disasters and catastrophes; built hundreds of new Red Cross houses, supported working days... worth over 100 billion VND; The field of disaster prevention and response reached over 41 billion VND; Health care work has examined and provided free medicine to over 10,000 people, worth over 1.2 billion VND; Voluntary blood donation work collected over 40,000 units of blood to effectively serve the emergency work and treatment to save patients' lives. The movement "Tet for the poor and victims of Agent Orange"; The campaign "Each organization, each individual is associated with a humanitarian address" has supported and helped difficult addresses and those in difficult circumstances with tens of billions of dong.

The organization is increasingly strong, attracting more members to participate. From a few hundred members, there are now over 124 thousand members; nearly 32 thousand volunteers and nearly 117 thousand Red Cross youths operating throughout 21 districts, cities, towns and all communes, wards and towns. The Association has many methods of operation to attract the participation of many classes of people, mass organizations, and domestic and international philanthropists. The Provincial Red Cross Association has actively expanded its foreign cooperation relations with domestic and international organizations, attracting more and more support and assistance from partners for the province's humanitarian work... The results of the Red Cross Association's activities have contributed positively to the successful implementation of the province's socio-economic goals.

With 35 years of experience, generations of cadres and members of the Red Cross Society of the province have promoted the tradition of charity of their homeland. This will be an important milestone marking a new step of development for the association to promote its achievements and rise to play a core role in humanitarian activities. The Party Committee and people of Nghe An, especially those in difficult circumstances and those who have been helped by the association, sincerely thank and acknowledge the enormous contributions of generations of leaders and members of the association.

Following the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh - the first Honorary President of the association: "We must start from a deep love for the people, contribute to protecting the people's health and do everything possible to reduce their suffering", in the coming time, the association will continue to unite, be proactive, creative, stick to the grassroots, expand cooperation, mobilize resources to help more families in difficult circumstances, illness, and disaster. Promoting the 35-year tradition of building and developing the Red Cross Society, we believe that the association will strive to excel in completing its tasks, implementing the sacred teachings of beloved Uncle Ho.
