(Baonghean) - The movement "Farmers compete in good production, unite to help each other eliminate hunger, reduce poverty and get rich legitimately" in our province is creating a strong influence throughout the highlands and lowlands of the province with the participation of a large number of Farmers' Association members. It is the dynamism and progress in business of typical farmers that has contributed to creating a strong driving force for development in an agricultural locality like our province...

Mr. Nguyen Huu Binh (right) in Dong Thanh commune (Yen Thanh) introduces an orange garden according to VietGAP standards.

Parishioner Nguyen Huu Binh is known by the people of Yen Thanh district as the "father" of a newly emerging orange "brand" - "Mr. Binh's oranges". Although it has only appeared on the market for a few years, the orange products are always sold out and most of the products are exported to the markets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. After being picked at the farm, the oranges are packaged with the label "Mr. Binh's orange farm" along with the address and contact phone number. Although it is the peak harvest season, other orange farms are struggling to find outlets and are forced to lower prices by traders, Mr. Binh's oranges still maintain the price of 40,000 VND/kg sold at the farm, all the harvested products are ordered by traders and there is absolutely no price pressure.

Because of Mr. Binh's "tone", we learned about his ambition and desire to get rich. Mr. Binh is originally from Do Luong, and has worked hard with orange trees in Nghia Dan and Quy Hop districts. When he realized that the compacted land of Dong Thanh commune could grow oranges, he boldly bought land and set up an orange farm according to VietGAP standards. In the first few years, the oranges had good quality but were difficult to sell, so Mr. Binh boldly went to Hanoi, asked an acquaintance to organize a customer conference, and introduced his orange products. Since that conference, traders at Hanoi's wholesale markets began to know and trust the new orange brand. In 2013, this old farmer earned 12 billion VND from oranges. It is expected that in 2014, that number will be 14 billion VND. Not only enriching himself, Mr. Binh also helps Dong Thanh people grow oranges, providing technical guidance and providing varieties. Up to now, Dong Thanh commune has 50 hectares of oranges and is gradually forming a specialized orange growing area according to new standards...

Anh Trần Đình Ánh (Quỳnh Lập, TX Hoàng Mai) kiểm tra chất lượng con tàu 1.000 CV sắp xuất xưởng.
Mr. Tran Dinh Anh (Quynh Lap, Hoang Mai Town) checks the quality of the 1,000 CV ship about to leave the factory.

In Quynh Lap ward (Hoang Mai town), Mr. Tran Dinh Anh is a seasoned fisherman. Since the age of 16, he followed his father to sea, worked as a captain to overcome storms in the Gulf of Tonkin and once had a burning dream of going to Hoang Sa, Truong Sa - places considered the fish barn of the East Sea, but because his boat was too small, he had to give up. From that unfulfilled dream, in 2009, Mr. Anh decided to quit his job at sea, borrowed money to hire workers to open a shipyard with the ambition that this would be the place to produce ships of 1000 CV or less, strong enough to reach out to large fishing grounds. In the first years of establishment, due to the lack of skilled workers, capital and experience, his shipyard encountered many difficulties.

Not giving up, Mr. Anh traveled all the way to Trung Kien shipbuilding village to learn from experience and hire skilled workers. By 2010, the first large ships were shipped, and the reputation of the shipyard gradually improved. Many fishermen from Hoang Mai, Quynh Luu, Thanh Hoa brought old ships to his shipyard to convert and hire new ships to build. Last August, his shipyard launched a 1,020-horsepower ship, considered the largest wooden-hulled ship in the province. It is expected that by the end of November, the shipyard will continue to launch a ship of nearly 1,000 horsepower and complete the repair and conversion of many other ships. Up to now, each year, Mr. Anh's shipyard has launched about 6 newly built ships and repaired many other ships, with total revenue estimated at 30-40 billion VND, after-tax profit reaching nearly 1 billion VND, creating jobs for 20 workers. Notably, in early November, he was the only representative of the province to be honored at the ceremony to honor outstanding national farmers.

Fortunately, Nghe An currently has more than 98 thousand farmers and fishermen who are changing their mindset, daring to think, daring to do, overcoming difficulties to rise up and get rich, competing in production to respond to the movement of good farmers and businessmen. In Tuong Duong district, this movement is becoming a spiritual support and a driving force for ethnic minorities to strive. Currently, the whole district has 249 farming households that have boldly converted crops and livestock, established livestock farms combined with afforestation. All 249 households have escaped poverty sustainably, including many well-off and rich households.

We can mention Ms. Lo Thi Ly's household in Tam Bong village (Tam Quang commune) with a farm and forest planting model, including raising 200 pigs, 14 cows, 10 goats, with a total annual profit of 320 million VND; Mr. Vi Duc Tuan's farm with a model of raising pigs, goats, pigeons combined with forest protection, etc. Up in the border district of Ky Son, the Mong, Thai, and Kho Mu ethnic groups in the border area are also competing in production, helping each other escape poverty and become rich. Many households own assets worth billions of VND, such as Mr. Gia Giong Chua (Nam Can commune) with a farm raising 91 cows, Xong Chong Tua (Muong Ai commune) with a farm raising 100 cows, Hoa Pho Ngoan (Muong Tip commune) raising 40 buffaloes, cows, 200 poultry, etc.

According to statistics from the Farmers' Association of Nghe An province, currently, the whole province has 232 farmer households ranked as millionaires with an income of more than 1 billion VND/year, and 2,815 farmer households with an income of over 200 million VND/year.

Strong spread

The movement of farmers competing in production, good business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty launched by the Vietnam Farmers' Association has received enthusiastic support from its members. In particular, in the current period, the movement has truly become a driving force for working farmers to strive and rise up to master the new production. The movement has also created a strong effect and spread to all members. Many farming households have large production scales, with business capital of hundreds of billions of VND, attracting hundreds of workers. This movement has also contributed to the formation of specialized production areas, large model fields with linkages, synchronous implementation from production, processing and consumption, gradually building typical agricultural product brands such as in Nghi Loc, Dien Chau, Do Luong, Yen Thanh, Quynh Luu districts. Currently, the whole province has built 28 large model models including 16 rice fields, 6 corn fields, 4 peanut fields, etc.

The movement has also become a driving force for many farmers not to accept poverty, determined to rise up, overcome difficulties and challenges, promote local advantages, exploit all available potentials of land, labor, capital to develop effective economic models. Up to now, the whole province has 420 farms including 29 crop farms, 155 livestock farms, 27 aquaculture farms. In addition, many farming households have also boldly established cooperatives and production cooperatives to link, expand scale, increase production and business efficiency. Currently, the province has 2,851 cooperative groups with more than 30,000 members participating, with 396 agricultural production cooperatives... In the recent Provincial Farmers' Emulation Conference, the Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 121 most outstanding farmers from districts, cities and towns in the province, which is a recognition and belief in new-age farmers, those who dare to think, dare to do, dare to change and are turning their family's land and rice fields into large-scale fields or prosperous farms and estates.

Another thing to note is that the movement of good farmers in production and business has effectively promoted the rise of many members to become rich legitimately in an admirable way. At the same time, the farmers' members are also aware of continuing to affirm their important position and role in the socio-economic development of the locality; contributing with the entire Party and the entire people to successfully carry out the modernization of agriculture and rural areas and soon complete the criteria for building new rural areas.
