Developing rural infrastructure in the Central provinces

The Prime Minister has justapproveProject portfolio Small-scale technical assistance in preparation for the project "Integrated rural infrastructure development in the Central provinces - Additional loan", funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The total non-refundable aid for the project is 200,000 USD.

The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to collect opinions from relevant agencies during the implementation of the technical assistance project, review the content of the loan, pay attention to the goals of hunger eradication and poverty reduction and new rural construction, and activities to be implemented first.

At the same time, coordinate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment to submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval of the list of loan projects according to regulations.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the project "Developing comprehensive rural infrastructure in the Central provinces" is being implemented in 13 Central provinces including: Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Kon Tum, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.

The project aims to improve the lives of rural people in 13 provinces in the Central region by improving access to markets, agricultural service infrastructure, and social services such as health and education, employment opportunities, and reducing vulnerability to natural disasters.

This will be achieved through the repair and upgrading of medium-scale rural infrastructure that has been degraded by war, natural disasters and lack of operational and maintenance budgets. The infrastructure invested includes rural roads, irrigation, rural markets, clean water and coastal works such as sand dune stabilization, saltwater intrusion prevention and mangrove conservation.

The desired output of the project is to improve the quality, expand and ensure the connectivity of rural infrastructure works in the project provinces with a higher level of awareness of the operation and maintenance requirements of the works.

The positive and long-term impacts of the project on beneficiaries are to improve livelihoods, increase income and quality of life of rural people in the Central region through improving agricultural productivity, creating more jobs, improving the quality of health and education and reducing the negative impacts of natural disasters.
